The capital of the Aquitaine region, Bordeaux is a city of art, history and trade nestled on either side of the Garonne River. The city has fully embraced the 21st century while preserving its cultural and gastronomic traditions and fondness of sports, nature and quality of life.

Bordeaux owes its fortune and importance to its wines and to its port. Architecturally, the city is an outstanding example of 18th century stone-carving, with the emblazoned and scalloped façades of the Bourse, Grand Théâtre and Place Royale. Elsewhere, narrow streets with a medieval layout form dark old neighbourhoods with a popular culture.
